What did you get for Xmas that you honestly didn't want or need. Did you get one of those famous silk ties or a beer mug that says "I Love New York?" Did you get a book about weight loss? Would you give one to someone else? Is that an obvious implication that you think that someone needs to lose weight. I don't know.
I think only the best of friends or close family should do something like that, otherwise it might come off as offensive. Don't you think? For example, my sister and I had been talking about this Fit For Life book that we have both been reading for some time now. The ideas in there have helped both of us and even my mom, so we decided to encourage my brother to buy it. He didn't have any time, so when my sister went to visit him, she and he both went to the store to finally get it. Has he read it? Come to think of it, I should ask him.
Either way, be supportive, not offensive. If you truly think a weight loss book is going to help someone you care about, maybe tell them about it first. Tell them how it benefited you or someone you know. Get them excited about it. Then give it to them.
